Floating photovoltaics IDEADOCK

Ideadock, a Milan-based company that produces modular floating cubes and jet ski slides, has designed and patented an innovative modular floating system for photovoltaic systems in 2023.

Floating photovoltaic systems have a 20% higher electrical yield than a conventional system, and they also reduce water surface evaporation by up to 80%. The value of these plants is therefore twofold: producing clean energy and combating drought.

How floating photovoltaic systems are made

The basic module, without metalwork, consists of three floating PSV (HDPE second life) elements, which are bolted together to form the housing for standard solar panels.

The module is infinitely replicable!

This feature makes it cost-effective and allows for a 60% reduction in installation time compared to a traditional system.
Each floating element is characterised by mechanical strength, reliability, safety and ease of assembly.

The characteristics of floating photovoltaic systems

  • Compatibility with Ideadock floating pontoons;
  • HDPE / Second Life Plastic with UV protection – 100% recyclable;
  • Non-slip surface;
  • Installation speed;
  • Possibility to vary buoyancy from 250 to 450Kg/sqm depending on snow load;
  • Possibility to vary the inclination of the solar panel depending on latitude.

The benefits of floating photovoltaic systems

  • No use of agricultural land;
  • Possibility of exploiting natural and artificial reservoirs: quarries, reservoirs, lakes;
  • Reduction of water evaporation by up to 80%;
  • Up to 20% higher yield than a ground-mounted photovoltaic system;
  • Availability of water for washing the plant;
  • Synergy with hydroelectric plants.
Possibility of material supply or turnkey projects.
